I’ve been raising CMDR registered Colorado Mountain Dogs since 2009. They are bred to guard livestock on smaller acreage, where there are lots of people involved, family, and farm visitors. They will guard animals vigorously, but if bred right, will enthusiastically greet farm guests. CMDs will still protect livestock and poultry from humans with a bad agenda, they have the ability to discern. My dogs are raised with goats and poultry and are selected for temperament and intelligence. Our Crack O’ Noon, CNK, pups have gone all over the country. They are wonderful, eager to greet visitors, but serious about keeping their animal charges safe. The breed crosses of the Colorado Mountain Dog may vary because we are selecting for temperament and aptitudes, but in general they are GP crossed with Turkish breeds to lower the barking, wandering, aggression, and to produce a low-care coat. My dogs are not 24/7 barkers. They always have a reason.
