Colorado Mountain Dogs were founded by Wendy Francisco of Crack O’ Noon Farms in 2008. They are being developed from a single stud, Caspian, by careful line crosses which create genetic diversity while selecting the traits that made Caspian an excellent dog for work on a small acreage farm. He was comfortable around guests to the property, but a diligent guardian who did not wander far, and who did not bark unless there was a reason. Additionally, Caspian was an unusually tall dog, beautiful, with an easy care medium length coat, and a slender, athletic build. People loved him.
Colorado Mountain Dogs began right here in 2009, at Crack O’ Noon, the original owner of Caspian. We specialize in continuing to select and hone the classic Caspian traits which inspired the breed. The CMD breed has grown! There are thousands of registered dogs nationwide now, and over 300 unrelated foundation animals in the Colorado Mountain Dog Registry pedigree database. Crack O’ Noon Colorado Mountain Dogs are raised here at Snow Dog Barn, with poultry and with our herd of registered New Zealand Kiko Goats. Dogs, birds, and goats grow up together, mentored by older dogs, and trained by Wendy, and by the bossy does who are concerned that the dogs respect their babies. CMDs are our passion, and we place our dogs on farms all over the country.
